Stop Discrimination

Question: My classmates often bully me and threaten me. What should I do?

Answer:

First and foremost, I’d like to thank you for the question on behalf of the rest of our friends who are going through a similar condition. I believe you have a brave heart to be able to voice out for things like this.

When we flip through the papers each morning, we see violence anywhere. Some are physical pain, and some are emotional wounds. Some may say that “I’ve done nothing wrong, why should you treat me like that?” Anyhow, I trust that it must have been very tough for you to keep something like that.

With this, I have come up with a few suggestions in hope that you could find a way to solve your problem.

1, 100% of the fault belongs to the violent person

Mr. Ikeda once said that those who are bullied should not take any of the fault because there is no reason for anyone to bully another person. However, the society we live in tends not to think of it that way. Discrimination seems to have been a norm of the society. But please remember that the only person who did wrong are the ones who discriminate.

2, talk to someone

Most of us tend to feel shy to talk to other people about our things. Sometimes it proves that we’re growing independently, but if there’s something hurting you, it is advisable that you talk to someone you trust, like a teacher or an elder person. If you feel awkward to speak, try writing it on a paper and pass it to that person you trust. With the help of the counselors at school, I believe you can get more relieved. Bear in mind that you’re not fighting alone. Whenever you’re in hardship, look for solutions and become that noble person who overcomes problems!

3, start constructing a friendly network

Mr. Ikeda: “Everyone in the world see things differently, hence having different judgment as well. But the only way to defeat rumour is through action.” Therefore, it is advisable for you to start making friends with the classmates that you can talk to. Through your everyday action, I believe people can understand you more and more. Other than that, the Buddhism has always been teaching us that peach, blossom, damnson and plum each have their strengths and weaknesses. Please don’t deny your potential just because of some people’s judgment.

4, to strive for people like you

This age of a student is the golden period for you to gain experience. There might be lots of incidents that are unfair in the world, but if you give on your studies just because of some other people, it would be a great lost. But since you have gone through all of this, you should be an even more considerate and understanding person. So please study well! Someday, you will become a great leader who cares and fight for the people who will be needing you.

Fight courageously and unleash the infinite potential in you. Stand up strong again to face your problems! Be as great as the Sun that rises everyday without fail. I hope that you march forward with hope, because the true victory will only be determined after 10, 20 or 30 years later. We must not fail!
