Reading Habit

Question: Why should we read more?

Answer:

Reading a good book is like meeting a noble teacher. It is a human right and ability to read where no other animals could do so. Everyone has a life, but reading could introduce you to hundreds and thousands of other people’s life. You could even have a dialogue with a noble writer 2000 years ago.

Reading is like travelling, we are able of going around the world experiencing life and sceneries. It is in books that we can even travel across time to meet the great Kings, to meet Socrates and so much more. It is such a great pity for not being able to experience such fun!

Many of the noble ones have a book of life to encourage and guide themselves. It is like having a good teacher or friend.

It is from reading that you could find the blossoming flowers in life, the Sun and Moon that expresses their emotions. This is where all sorts of dreams could be possible. What’s important is that we take an action to realize our own dreams other than reading.

If you wish to experience the fun of skiing, you will never know if you never try it yourself; playing the piano, learning computer skills, reading, all of these require an effort. If you hadn’t given your effort to try it out, how could you experience the fun of it?

Those who make friends with books are warriors. This is because they’ve enriched themselves with the essence of the noble ones’ knowledge from the past. Such knowledge is a great treasure for the heart. What’s more important is that we practice a habit to read. Those who have a reading habit would spend their spare time wisely, be it on the transit or during an afternoon tea.

When Mr. Toda was young, he had once worked as a person who pulls the carriage. Whenever he thought of that period, he’d say “Everyday I aimed to finished my work as soon as possible so that I could bring the carriage to the outskirts, lie on the field and read.”

Reading could sometimes be tough as hiking. The process is difficult, but the satisfaction is great once you’re done. Looking down the scenery from on top of the hill it’s the greatest pleasure of reading. However, there are always challenges waiting for us on our journey of hiking. You can choose not to challenge something that difficult for the first time. Likewise, in reading, you may choose topics that you’re interested in and start building up a reading habit from here. Once you’ve picked up the habit, starting challenging on something harder. The 21st century’s stage belongs to you. If you had no character and personality, you would not be respected and will only be treated as a machine that earns money.

Reading can help to construct personality and character. Leaders of the country may not be successful if they hadn’t read books and novels from the famous author. To construct a Humanistic society, the leaders must enrich themselves with great amount of knowledge.

As successors of 21st century, you must be aware that the key to victory is from reading. Start constructing the pieces of your heart from now on. This is the only way to prepare a fertile land for the growth of a great and noble tree.

Each one of you have an infinite potential in you. The way of unleashing such potential is through reading. I hope that you can spend the time of your youth to challenge yourselves in terms of reading. Read until you finally could not read anymore.
