Precious Friendship

Question: I used to have a best friend. But we’ve never talked to each other ever since we had a fight that was incited by our classmates. What should I do?

Answer:

One of the Chinese oldies song “Friendship” had lyrics that said “Everyone needs friendship, nobody can walk life alone… please cherish friendship, because it’s hard to get it back when it’s gone, sincerely encourage each other, for that lasting friendship will warm your heart… hold the passion, don’t let it go…”

A few sentences from the lyrics have pointed out the most beautiful, most valuable, strongest friendship we could have. If you think that you still value this precious friendship, you must explain everything and make things clear. It’s easy to get friends anywhere we go, but it’s never easy to have best friends that are very close to us. If such friendship had to go to waste because of some rumour or misunderstanding, it could be such a regrettable event.

Back in my schooling days, I used to have two classmates that do everything with me. I could remember that time when classmate A burst out a joke that had gone too far. Soon, the three of us never talked. At the very moment, the other classmate took advantage to break us up, but fortunately, some other classmates helped us got back together. After some time, we finally felt that we’ve been naive and childish to have sacrificed our friendship because of something tiny. In the end, the three of us became best friends. I believe things like this could stay in your mind forever even after you’ve left the school.

Opportunities to have sincere and close friends are made by us. Sometimes, our immature character would have given each other a hard time. At this point, we must be aware to enrich our heart and be a trusted person. More importantly, we must determine whether our attitude and lifestyle is healthy and mature.

A truly mature attitude is never having to fear of failing, losing, being misunderstood, or being incited. We must learn from every incident. When something happened, we must discover and explore more about ourselves. Every relationship changes, but if we can’t be friends today, there is always tomorrow! Perhaps one day, you might run into that friend at some other places, realizing that he/she had been a great help to you recently.

President Ikeda once said that “The more hardship you’ve gone through, the more you’re able of understanding others. You must be strong. You must become the Sun that emits an indestructible sunlight, one that keeps on shining. Some of the people may not accept your sunlight and decide to disappear before you. But as long as you maintain emitting your light, you are able to light yourself up.” “Furthermore, with your chanting, you will realize that your suffer had slowly been solved. At the same time, you must pray for your friends. This is the utmost friendship.” Therefore, please do not forget to face your problems with courage when they emerge. You must grow strong to be the great trusted pillar among your friends. Let’s work harder together!
