The Last Fight

Question: Final examination is here! It seems that I’m running out of time. How should I have a last preparation?

Answer:

Looking at the calendar, you’re getting nearer and nearer to the examination date and you’re getting tensed up. What you need, is a proper plan to conduct your revision and have a good habit to do revision frequently. This will boost up your preparation for the exam.

1, be psychologically prepared

Counting the 100 days away from the examination date, you must remind yourself to be hard-working. Time you have is fixed and limited, if you do not use it well it could be too late. Hence, minimize your time for entertainment during this period and put more of your attention into your revision. Graduating with flying colours could lead you to a better direction with more options available.

2, have a plan or programme for your revision

We must have a proper system to study in order to ensure that what we’ve studied is really helpful to us. In the same time, we must find a balance in all subjects. Plan a study schedule for yourself to meet the school’s monthly test so that you prepare yourself for the final examination. Before your final examination, you could also take the previous tests questions as practice so that you understand where your weakness is.

Before you begin with your revision, chant for wisdom to arrange your time and also to increase your performance in your revisions. Other than that, make some short notes for yourself after reading. Translating words from the textbook into your own words make it easier for you to digest and remember. When you outlined the major points, you will remember the essence of the chapter very well. This is a good way to help lessening your time spent on the chapter for future revisions too.

Plus, should you come across to certain questions you do not understand, make sure you ask your teacher or classmates. Never be ashamed of asking because you are giving opportunities for other people to share knowledge to you. Likewise, when you classmates asked you to share your knowledge, never hesitate of doing so. This is the proper way of learning together.

3, pay attention in class

Many students have filled their lives with tonnes of activities after class. Time left for them at home is much more lesser nowadays. Hence, it is very important for you to pay attention in class. If you had paid attention to absorb the knowledge in the class, it makes it easier for your revision and saves you time too. When you found something you do not understand during a lesson, voice out immediately, don’t keep the questions in your heart. As time pass, you will only collect tonnes of unanswered questions if you do that. Soon, you might even lose the interest to study.

4, a proper location for revision

It is advisable that you have your own space to study at home, be it study room or your bedroom. Don’t stay near to televisions or computers or you might be influenced. Try to speak to your family members, I’m sure they will understand you. If you had no choice, you could always head to the school’s library. It is good that you avoid places that might drag your attention away from your revision. Having a proper study environment could increase your performance as well.

5, having a good rest

No matter how hard you study, do not spend your sleeping hours to study. If you do that, you may not have the energy or the spirit to sit for the tests or examinations. If you picked up a bad habit of sleeping late, this will only decrease your performance. Make sure that you sleep before 11pm.

This is a very tough challenge for you. Remember not to give up and fight till the very last moment! Don’t give up because you had not much time. Spend time wisely. When you find it hard to study, chant in front of Gohonzon and calm your mind. Mr. Ikeda once said that “Those who persisted till the end are the true victors.” Mr. Ikeda is always chanting for our victory as well!
