Changing the Environment

Question: The discipline in the school is awful. I don’t feel like going to school.

Answer:

If your class wasn’t at a good condition, how should you study well? A noisy class is usually made up of students that do not respect each other and students that are selfish. We could hardly see students with the will to study in classes as such.

It is quite tough for you to be in such environment. In order not to be influenced, you must first have the mission to start influencing others. I remember there was a story named “The Tune Effect”.

The story began with Sardines. Sardines are fishes that could not survive if they leave the sea. However, in order to sell the Sardines for a good price, the fishermen must keep them alive until they could reach the bay. Then, a brilliant fisherman suggested a great idea of putting Tunas into the same tank of Sardines. Tunas are Sardines’ enemy, this way the Sardines would keep their guard up and stay alive.

Hence, if we’re always prepared to handle all sort of situations, we’re in the same time training ourselves to have the ability to solve and strengthening our life.

Firstly, we must begin to take initiative. Ask yourself if you hadn’t been respecting your classmates well, reflect on the things you’ve done.

Next, have a study group of your own and be involved in extra-curricular activities. Be the ones to change the environment, be the good friends that bring god influence to your classmates. Help each other out when it’s needed, share you knowledge that you’ve learned. Sooner or later, you will be able to have more topics to talk about and from there you constructed a bridge of friendship. Ask them to join these extra-curricular activities with you. Learning isn’t a thing to be done in the class only, but you can also learn about sports or skills from the societies and clubs.

If your classmates were still disturbing in the class, you could inform them about it. Mr. Ikeda once said that “If we never fight against evil, it only means that we’re helping evil.” To maintain the discipline of the class isn’t just the task of a teacher and monitor, but it’s a mission of each and every student in the class as well.

Lastly, practice a good habit in the class. When people in the class start to notice a difference, they will start to change as well. Be the role model and lead your classmates with you.

Mr. Ikeda mentioned that “One person’s noble character revolution will change the karma of a country.” Likewise, do not think that you’re just a tiny part of the class, but you have the mission to be the one of changing them. Let the class be a better place because of your existence.
