Question: Studying is very important, but who must be involved in extra-curricular activities too. But if I focus only on one of them, I’d be neglecting the other one.
Answer:
There is no doubt that it is a tough task to maintain both studies and extra-curricular activities. But I do agree that it is both very crucial.
You are at the age of forming an essential foundation for the rest of your life. While constructing a tall building, having a soft and vulnerable foundation could threaten then plan. Skyscrapers can only be built when there is a strong and solid foundation provided. Likewise, if we never construct a great foundation at this youthful age, we may never get to grow up well.
Hence, to foster a foundation, we must first foster and train ourselves. Firstly, we must train ourselves to have a strong and healthy body and soul. Then, we must train ourselves to absorb knowledge. At the same time, we must never forget to train ourselves in terms of the attitude when being in touch with people in the society. Patience is an important element when it comes to relationships between one another in the society. Therefore, solely to learn isn’t enough to build ourselves a personality. This only takes place when we’re involved in extra-curricular activities. Some of you may think that it’s more important to study, but in this way, you’ll only turn out to be someone who achieved good grades but not good friends. At some point, you’ve never grown.
I think that you’re at the age where you should try to breakthrough your own limit with courage. Be brave to try! It was never easy to maintain both studies and activities, but as you mentioned, you would neglect one of them if you only focus on one. However, I would suggest you not to worry too much as it may limit your potential. Even if you fail, that failure would be a priceless lesson and you would grow even stronger with time! I hope that you could be a youth with great spirits to challenge.
At times, we may feel pressured from both sides. But never think of giving up! Take it as a training for the strength of your will.
When you have the will to breakthrough these troubles and worries, you’d begin to put in more effort. Growth can be achieved when there is an input of effort. A life without worry or trouble could never prepare a single opportunity for our growth.
If you ask how to maintain both studies and extra-curricular activities? Here’s a suggestion:
1. To maintain both aspects does not mean that there should be an equal input of time and effort to them. If we divide our time and effort into half for two aspects, then we would probably turn out to have half an achievement in both. Whenever there’s an examination coming up, focus more on your studies and lessen the hours you spend in activities. When there are events like the school’s sports day, get yourself involved more into those practice then. When we know when to focus on both of them, we’d turn out to be fine.
2. Focus when you’re studying, and give a hundred percent of your effort while you’re in an activity. Give your best shot whenever you are involved in anything. If we never give the best of us, how are we supposed to know whether we’ll do good?
What’s important is we focus on what we’re doing, never worry about your clubs and society when you’re in the class. Likewise, don’t think about your homework while you’re in the middle of some practice. Those who are unable of handling both aspects are probably people like this.
At this moment, it seems that studies and extra-curricular activities are two of your biggest problem. But as you grow, you may need to handle more than two things in your life. Plus, if you wish to become someone who is able of contributing to the society, you must then train yourself to do your best at all the aspect. Hence, I hope that you could give the best of you in everything you do from now on.
