Question: I don’t know which occupation to pursue in the future, should I set a target this early?
Answer:
I believe that many would have had lots of ideas and dreams to pursue for in the future. Some of you may want to be a lawyer, a technician, an artist, a chef, a designer or even a teacher. It may stay as a dream at the current stage, but some of you might have begun working very hard towards your aims. However, there are also a few that are still thinking but taking no action towards their aims.
But of course, as we learn and grow in time, the changes in our environment may also affect our target. Mr. Ikeda used to dream of becoming a news reporter. However, he couldn’t make it back then with his health condition. Nevertheless, he had never given up his challenge on other fields and aspects. In the end, he became a great poet of culture, peace and education.
A famous Czech runner, Zhatuopeike used to say “I’ll decide again after I’m done running to the next pole!” As he reached, he’d tell himself “Run more! To the next one pole again!” he used to practice this way, adding up parts and pieces of experience through his practice. Maybe your aims towards the future might not be clear for now, but when you got yourself involved in something, make sure that your
effort is consistent! As you challenge this way, your aim will appear clearer and you could see you own mission.
Never forget that those who carry “great mission” are strong. No matter what you might be facing, never give up. Turn all your troubles into your motivation.
For example, you could start venturing in something you’re interested. No matter if it’s mathematics, English, sports, or charity events, make an action to explore your interests. Mr. Ikeda once said “You may not excel in some other things, but make sure that you do your best in the things you’re good at!”
Sometimes, people around us may notice things that we do. So lift up your courage and talk to someone. Perhaps you might just found an unexpected opinion from them that opens up your mind. As we set aims in our life, we begin to construct our own story. The challenge of youth is to “construct yourself”, in other words, training yourself for an advancement. Our life’s foundation is set around the age of 10 or 20. This is the most important time of our life. If we never build ourselves a strong and steady foundation, we may not be able to construct our future as high as a great tower. Set aims during your youth time and challenge towards them.
Everyone has their own jewel, which is their talents and their irreplaceable mission. However, we need to explore in order to find them out. Someone once said that “Everyone is a genius in some aspects”. It is not only musicians, scientists, or philosophers that we call genius. Mr. Ikeda once said “Some are geniuses at conversations, some or geniuses in making friends, geniuses in humour, geniuses of persistence, geniuses that are always positive, and then there are geniuses that bring happiness to the rest…” This is what ‘cherry, peach, damson and blossom’ means, that everyone should be true to yourself because you have your very own flower in life.
Hence, to those who already have aims, please strengthen your will and march towards them. As for those who had not, I hope that you could consider well of what you’re going to do, set an aim for yourself and start writing a beautiful story for your future.
