21st Century
Question:
What's the 21st century like?

Answer:

Before we talk about 21st century, do you know what's 20th century like? In the beginning of the book "Human Revolution", Ikeda Sensei wrote: "There's nothing more cruel than war! There's nothing more miserable than war! But, war is still happening." We've had 2 world wars in the 20th century (not counting in the rest), many have lost their lives, causing a shattered family. This is the "Century of War".

What kind of century do you wish it could be? The "Century of Peace", I suppose?

But how do we turn this into a century of peace? First, we must be aware of the cause of war. From my opinion, war happens because of us, human beings, and our hearts. Hence, to stop war, we must start changing ourselves, changing our heart, changing the way we think. Soka Gakkai is a society that values every single human being. To give a helping hand to those who are in need, this is the Soka Spirit! I believe that if we promote the Soka Spirit, there will be peace.

In the year of 2005, hurricane "Katrina" hit New Orleans city in Louisiana, Mississippi and other states, causing massive destruction. Immediately, the SGI in America set up Rescue Centres. Some of the victims happened to be a member of SGI. Despite knowing their homeland being demolished, they are still giving an effort in helping the rest! This merciful act, is what we call the Soka Spirit! Nowadays, Soka Gakkai has always been organizing activities that educate people about the Soka Spirit, bringing up people with such positive attitude.

Everyone of us has a mission to open up a brand new century. I hope that we could all be active and positive in learning, and practice the habit of thinking. Furthermore, we should always study and understand Nichiren Daishonin's buddhism and the Soka Gakkai's spirit.

In the beginning of "New Human Revolution", there was a sentence saying : "There's nothing more valuable than peace! There's nothing happier than peace! Peace is the reason we keep moving forward!". Let's spread the seeds of peace in every corner of our lives.
