The Tail-less Fox
There was this old fox who got himself into the trap of a hunter, he got his tail stuck by the trap and barely fled away. Despite he managed to save his life, but he lost his tail in return.

The old fox felt insecure without his tail, he thought that he would be teased by his own kind. What would he do?

He thought that if there is a way to make everyone of his kind to feel that not having a tail is actually better, it might help solve the problem.

Wouldn’t put it past that everyone would follow him that everyone gets their tail cut. Who would laugh each other then?

The problem is, the tail plays a big part in the old fox’s life, take now as an instance, the old fox couldn’t sleep tight without his tail covering his body.

While the old fox was pondering, fox Q came and interrupted.

“Mister, is there anything puzzling you? Where is your tail? Your back is all naked.”
“It was cut”
“Wouldn’t that be inconvenient without your tail? How did you lose your tail?”
“Hey folk, you wouldn’t know that. But let me ask you, what unused organs do human possess?
“Every organ has its uses, why would any organ be unused?”
“That’s why I said you wouldn’t know. There’s this organ called “Appendix” that stays in human body as a threatening thing.”
“Is that so?”
“Having appendix stay in our body would lead to Appendicitis.”
“Is that true?”
“That is precisely true. What is the only unused organ for animal?”
“Every organ in animals has its uses”
“You are wrong, animals’ tail has no use”
“Mister I do not agree to your saying. Animals have different shaped tails, they all have different uses, why would they be useless?”

“You seem to be fond of debate, could you give me some examples?”
“Cows and horse use their tail to repel mosquitoes.”
“Animals are of profound categories, you have only given me some. I’d ask you, what’s the use of a lion’s tail?”

“Lion’s tail not only could repel mosquitoes, it could be used to coax their children.”
“How about monkeys?”
“Monkey’s tail can be used to carry items”
“How about Squirrels?”
“Squirrel’s tail can be used as a balancing aid”
“How about crocodiles?”
“Crocodile’s tail is tough enough to serve as a defensive shield. According to what was written on the book, crocodile’s tail could lift up a wild boar weighing up to 200kg and chuck it far away.
“How about lizards?”
“When lizards are endangered, they would split up their tail to distract their enemies and take their refuge.”
“How about fishes?”
“Tail for fishes helps them to swim, without tail, they couldn’t swim”
“How about birds?”
“Birds have different tail structures. For instance, woodpecker would have its rigid, rugged and elastic tail to lift up its body on a tree strand, preventing it from falling down.”
“How about the insects”
“Let’s say, the fireflies. They have glowing tails that serve as a communication means and as an organ to attract their partners.”

“I don’t believe that every animal has their tail for purpose, there must be an exception”
“Animals have their tails for distinctive uses, but there’s this common function it serves.”
“What is that?”
“That is to protect your anus”
“Fox Q, try to think again, what animal has its tail without a purpose again?”
“I can’t figure out, I don’t believe that there’s this animal that doesn’t use its tail for a thing”
“Let me tell you, Folk’s tail is similar to human’s appendix, it is useless yet is threatening to us”
“Fox’s tail is used to protect our anus too right?”
“Is protecting the anus more important than your self-esteem?”
 “Mister, I do not get what you’re trying to say”
“Human thought that fox uses its tail to cover up conspiracy and evilness”
“Why?”
“There’s a saying that when fox evolved into devil, they transform into human appearance leaving its tail intact.”
“Absurd! Human beings are evil.”
“Having a tail turns foxes into a scapegoat, you wouldn’t have needed it. Fox Q, do you want to cut off your tail?”
“Mister, I couldn’t refute you but I do not want to give up my tail”
“Since you have conceded to my opinion, why wouldn’t you want to cut it off? I know, you are a coward because you are afraid.”

“No, not having a tail is not convenient at all”
“You are dumb. Look at me, I am more agile after giving up the tail”
“But…it is ugly for not having a tail”     
“Ugly? Let me ask you something. Do bears look better with or without their tails?”
“Of course they look better without tail”
“That’s it, Fox Q, don’t hesitate no more, you should be a cute fox then”
“Mister, is this your sincere advice”
“If I were not sincere, I would be a dog”
“You really don’t want to have a tail?”
“Why would you want the useless thing?”
“I have nothing to say here”
“Do you mean that you want to have your tail cut as well”
“No, Mister. I do know there’s a way to join back the tail. But since you no longer wanted a tail, so it’s fine.”
“You could join a tail? How could that be?”
“This is precisely true, but it has to be done on the day you lost your tail, it cannot be done on the next day”.
“Can you tell me how do I get my tail joined back?”
“Mister, didn’t you say that without tail you get more agile and could avoid to become a scapegoat?
“I wasn’t sincere just now.”
“Mister, did you just admit that you are a dog?”
“Yes, I am a dog… *bark bark”


Thoughts
This deceitful fox tried to cover up his shortcomings by manipulating lies. It was to protect himself, but that was not right. There’s a Chinese saying “Things that you do not want should not be offered to others” We should learn to admit mistakes done by us, learn to be responsible for what we have done. We have to then try our best to mitigate the impacts caused as a result of our mistake.

If we live our life in the world of fairy tales, we could learn from Fox Q. With his strong determination, Fox Q did not fall into the lies of the deceitful fox but he managed to make the deceitful fox to concede to his own mistake. Do not get yourself manipulated by rumors, we should voice out the truth, this is the prevail of justice over evilness. President Daisaku Ikeda often taught us, when we deal with unfair occasions, we should instantly condemn it and not let it to continue worsening. If we find our friend making mistakes, we should instantly come close and enlighten them so that he would not adapt mistakes as his habit.

There’s this British thinker, Francis Baco who said that “Those who are incapable of virtues often hold jealousy in others’ virtues. They thought that these virtues are unattainable for them, they would then hold conspiracies to hamper others’ happiness, to the extent when people have fallen to the same state as they are.”

If you are situated in a different environment than others, regardless of how you feel that you are worse than others, one should not speak to twist the truth. You could try seeking advices from some seniors about your current situation, to find out the best solution of what you should do. One should strengthen his/her determination and courage in order to bounce up from where one had fallen down. To me, this is a commendable virtue.

Those who can endure hardship and able to grow stronger from patience are the world’s toughest people.

Regarding to the fox tale that we mentioned before, is human appendix really useless?

Human appendix has the thickest but the shortest measurement while it has the highest frequency amongst the intestinal system. After we have eaten, foods would be digested through our stomach and later sent to the small intestine to have the nutrients absorbed. At last it would be sent to the big intestine and later being passed to the anus that will form feces. At the midst between the small and big intestines, there is this organ called “Appendix”. It serves to help absorbing water and enriches us with Vitamin B and K. Due to the fact that humans are omnivorous beings, so we do not utilize appendix much, that had led to the contraction of appendix. On the contrary, Herbivores utilize appendix because their source of food is from the plants that has highly-fibred content.
