A Determined and Responsible Heart
Holiday is coming, Xiao Hao decided to muster up his courage and asked his mother to allow him to join some outdoor activity class. Since little, Xiao Hao had been teased by his friends for being weak and short. He aspired to have a strong and healthy body. “Mum, I want to join the swimming class, here is the application form, hope you could sign your consent for me”.

By simply glancing through the form, his mum learnt that some of the tasks were quite challenging. Not only Xiao Hao had to master all the swimming techniques, he had to train well to achieve a certain level of proficiency can he graduate from the swimming class. Despite Xiao Hao was weak that he couldn’t able to handle that, but seeing how determined Xiao Hao was, his mother finally had given her consent to Xiao Hao’s application.

For the first few classes, Xiao Hao was so seemingly enjoying it. Everyday when Xiao Hao went back from the swimming class, he would tell his mother how he gradually improved, he even claimed that he was getting stronger as a result of practicing. Seeing how dedicated Xiao Hao was, his mother let go her worry and continued to allow Xiao Hao to swim.

One day, Xiao Hao went home and locked himself in the room after his swimming class, he didn’t even want to eat. The next day, Xiao Hao was admitted to hospital due to high fever. Lying on the bed with his weak voice Xiao Hao told his mother “Mum, I am not suited in joining the swimming class, my body is weak and would easily fall sick.” Since then, Xiao Hao had never spoken more. His mother was worried and resorted to call his swimming coach to know more about Xiao Hao’s happening in the swimming class.

It was later she learned that Xiao Hao failed his preliminary level swimming examination and required to stay back for 3 more classes. However, his mother wasn’t pessimistic but encouraged Xiao Hao “When you decided to join this swimming class and had my consent on it, I think that you were clear on what you really wanted. Mummy believes in you that you could deal with this challenge, but not giving up. You should consider about your determination and origin that drove you to swim, this is a vital force to keep you going regardless of any challenges. Mummy would not allow you to give up at your ease, citing your body being weak as an excuse.”

His mother statement had put him into awe. Usually Xiao Hao’s mother would take good care Xiao Hao especially when it comes to his health. But now, his mother stressed that Xiao Hao should continue to challenge his problems by attending his swimming classes. Would Xiao Hao return to his swimming class? What if you were Xiao Hao? What would you do then? Xiao Hao would need to ponder properly before going back to his swimming class by putting what his mother told him to a deep thought. Just like what President Ikeda has been stressing about, one should be as courageous as a roaring lion. In the process, we are bound to deal with obstacles and problems. Most importantly when we had decided to do so, we should not be defeated by ourselves. When the evil part is telling us to give up, we should be a man of word, by holding tight and be patient can we become a victorious man!

President Ikeda is someone who holds tight to what he said, only can he bear the destiny of President Josei Toda and continued to do so till he is 83 today. Children, let us chuck away all the excuses as we endeavor to challenge our daily problems and homework. Please remember that we all should be vivid and cheerful!
