Long long ago, there was a huge forest where all the animals live in their respective kingdoms. For example, the wild boars would have their kingdom, and the elephants would have their own piece of land. Every group of animals have their territory.
There was one time, a conflict happened in the kingdom of rabbits. A group of rabbit citizens left the kingdom. Bring led by a royal, they explored and constructed another kingdom of their own, naming it “Bunnies of the North”. Ever since then, both the kingdoms of North and South dug a long river between them, separating not only their relationship but their territory as well.
One day, the King of the Southern territory went to the river for a play. However, right at the same moment, a bunny from the Northern territory accidentally fell into the river. Immediately upon the King’s order, the royal guards pulled the bunny up to the bank. They found that the bunny, Ray is ill. So the King told him to stay until he gets better and that he’ll order his guards to construct a boat to send Ray home once he recovered.
On his stay in the Southern kingdom, Ray got to know a few friends. He then began to flatter about the Northern kingdom, praising that it’s much better than the Southern kingdom… He even promised to bring them back to the North. So, they took the boat at night and set sail to the Northern kingdom just like that.
As they reached, Ray thought that the King would grant him wealth and fame as he brought more bunnies to the Northern kingdom. However, the King gave him nothing but just a word of thanking him. Since then, the King never treated Ray any differently. Ray got so unhappy that he finally fell ill, only this time he seemed worse. Before taking the last breath of his life, he asked his fellow bunnies “Before I die, I must know why the King treated me so cold? I’ve brought a few strong citizens to his kingdom, how come he’d never cared? Why is that so?”
As his friends tell him the answer, he closed his eyes, leaving tears of regret to marks the end of his life. Initially, the King said that “For a bunny that could betray the person who saved his life, it doesn’t worth anything. I must not be the next victim.”
Postscript:
The story reminds us to be grateful and never forget people’s kindness.
Ray, the little bunny could only live through an accident with the help of the King of the Southern kingdom and his guards. However, not only he did not repay them but he took away their people instead. Such action isn’t right. His first intention might be purely to flatter about his country, but it led him to bringing people to his country, getting advantage of other people.
Ray did not realize the whole story until his friends told him the truth before his death. It seemed that his friends never planned to say anything to him before that. It’s sad that not a single chance was given for little Ray to make things right. Thus, from here we learned that we must remind our friends when there are problems. This way, they could still be aware of it to make a change. It is ignorant and cruel to not say a thing when it’s time to voice out.
Back to our daily life, we must never follow what Ray has done. It doesn’t matter if a person had helped us previously, but we just can’t take advantage on other people by doing things that could hurt them. If someone had given us aid, we must always remember to repay them with a grateful heart. Even if a word of “Thank you” could be good enough to express ourselves. “Thank you” holds infinite power. As far as I know, it’ll help us gain trust from other people, building us a bridge of friendship.
Hence, do not ever forget to hold a heart of gratitude. Only then we’re able of achieve a noble advancement.
