Capturing Spring

Long ago, there used to be a little pine tree that was living in its own complaints. Long before he became a tree, the little pine fell onto this land of grass. Since then, he began growing in a fresh environment. However, as time pass by, the little pine tree got bored and mad of its living environment. The busy hassle of the city where cars were driven along every now and then, it has all made the little tree frustrated. He’s always been shaking his body, hoping to grow legs out of the ground to march himself out of this dreadful place.

Nevertheless, all his effort was just a waste. The pine tree started to think of his past, missing the moments when he used to be just a happy little seed living in a peaceful and harmony place.

Out of a sudden, a faint voice was calling upon him. “Who… who’s there?” The pine tree questioned with curiosity as he rolled his eyes to get a clearer view. As he looked around, he found that it was the little grass beneath him that’s been calling. “Pine tree, have you been missing your hometown? Please don’t be sorrow, we could still change this place!” A peach tree and a blossom tree opposite them voiced out, “Yea, he’s right! Our leaves could absorb all the poisonous gas and reduce noise pollution. We shall work together!” Hearing such a delightful encouragement from his fellow friends, the pine tree decided to stop whining and start absorbing the nutrients in the ground to get himself some leaves.

Years gone by…

It’s been three Springs since then. Thick layers of fresh green grass covered the ground like a roll of carpet. The trees have grown a lot either. The peach and the blossom trees were blooming gorgeously as they smiled and thanked the pine tree. “Because of you, our environment’s gone better!” The pine tree waved and replied “I should be the one to thank you! If it wasn’t for your encouragements, I wouldn’t even be living joyfully.”

At this very moment, a group of primary school kids came over to the pine tree. The kids took photographs of the touching moments, keeping the smile of the pine, the peach, and the blossom tree. They’ve captured Spring on that piece of memory!

Postscript:

The moments of having dreams and ambitions are always delightful as we courageously march forward to them.

However, the thought of giving up would emerge as we found that it doesn’t seem as perfect as what we’ve imagined on the journey to our dreams.

It would be like the little pine tree’s effort to run away from his situation and keep thinking of his past.

No doubts, memories of the past always tend to give us warmth. But wouldn’t it be even better if we could constantly create great moments in life? Why not we look forward instead of gazing behind of us? Let’s turn all our past and experience into nutrients that’ll make us a better person.

A life without challenge and hardship would be like living meaninglessly. But who wouldn’t come across to problems and trouble? Environments are always changing and challenging, but wouldn’t we be happier if we could overcome them instead of just complaining?

There will always be challenges waiting for us on the journey to our dreams. But this is actually just a training for us before we realizing our dreams. If dreams were to be easily achieved without overcoming any challenges, it wouldn’t have been called as a ‘dream’ or an ‘ambition’ then. Moreover, what value is it to achieve things that are easily acquired?

President Ikeda once said “Without the torment of a Winter, we may never understand the joy of Spring.” The little pine tree in the story had given his effort to change the place he lives, which was what he used to think as a dreadful place. He’s been accomplishing his very mission as he took up the challenge to grow and make a change. Only those who underwent hardship could understand the true meaning of challenge; only then could we achieve the utmost happiness out of our mission. As what President Ikeda’s said, we could only experience the joy of Spring when we’ve gone through the hard times during Winter.

Hence, we must be like the little pine tree, to challenge through our dreadful situations, turning the land we stand into land of light. In the same time, we must never forget to be like the little grass, to encourage our comrades along our journey. Be the good influence for our comrades while we strive along together, and be a senior with a heart to nurture and guide the Future Divisions like our President Ikeda.
