A Piece of Rock

Long ago, there was a piece of rock lying deep in the woods. It has a dream, to someday be able to fly in the air like birds do. When it told its dream to its friends, it was being laughed at. “Look at him, fly up in the sky? What a joke! Haha!”

Nevertheless, it has never been influenced by any of those words. It has decided to bear with the dream it has. Once day, a person called Bill passed by. The rock knows Bill is an intelligent person. So it tells Bill about its dream.
Bill: “I can realize your dream. But before that, you must grow into a gigantic mountain. It required a lot of hard work.”
Rock: “I’m not afraid of it.”

Since then, the rock began to train itself through the challenges given by the environment. Without knowing how many years it’s gone through, the thunderstorms and the blizzard it challenged through had made it into a huge mountain. So one day, Bill paid a visit to this mountain. Without a second thought, he summoned a thunderstorm so fierce that made all the birds flew away. The Earth was shaking and suddenly, a lightning stroke onto the mountain, exploding it into pieces. Finally, the rock gets to fly up in the air with laughter.

Nevertheless, after a few moments, it fell back onto the ground. Bill asked if the rock regretted for what it’s done, but the rock replied “No, I won’t regret what I’ve done. At least I’ve been a great mountain, and I’ve soared in the sky!”

Thoughts:

I believe you would have read stories similar to this. Anyhow, these stories are encouraging us that we must never give up no matter what problems come ahead. I bet you would have known how the story ends, but have you ever wonder what’s the relationship between us and the piece of rock?

When we’re determined to accomplish something, there are always some negative words to be heard. However, if we can move on passionately towards our aim without taking those words seriously, we will be able to meet our mentor, Ikeda Sensei. When we’re lost, we read Ikeda Sensei’s writings and guidance. When we continuously strive along with our mentor’s guidance, we would be determined to get over the challenges in order to reach nearer and nearer to our dreams.

“Kids, you must persist till the very last moment! Don’t give up so easily!” These are the words we could usually hear from out JD PIC. Let’s ask ourselves, do we have a heart that’ll never give up no matter what? For example, I bet you’ll meet a kid that’s a little more active than the rest. Probably the meeting wouldn’t run as smooth as planned because of that kid. To put attention on this, has anyone of you given up on children like this?

Our organization implements ‘Humanistic Education’, which happens to be the idea of 3 of our mentors. When there is a Junior Division’s activity, the children could get close to a ‘Humanistic Education’. This is a long journey that requires the effort of us, JD PIC.  Have we ever brought the ‘Humanistic Education’ into action? This is the very mission that we have to achieve! A famous professor once said “The larger the goal of our lives gets, the more we require a mentor. When we’re determined to be as noble as our mentor, we must strive for achievement as great as our mentor, leaving a great contribution to the people which no one can imitate.

Ikeda Sensei is our teacher, our mentor. We must treat our children as the future chairmen, presidents and to nurture them well. The children’s growth couldn’t be achieved in just a day or two. Similarly to the rock’s dream, it requires a continuous challenge through hardship to be realized. Even flowers require time as attentive effort from us to be able to blossom. Hence, our children’s attitude and character depends on the way we nurture them! Ikeda Sensei teaches “Those who never forget their mission, vow and origin are strong and indomitable.” Just like every of us, having such noble mission. We’re the indomitable warriors!

I sincerely hope that everyone could strive as the rock on the journey of education. We must give our full effort for the sake of the children’s growth! Let’s challenge along the idea of Ikeda Sensei!
