The Little Clock
One day, a newly assembled little pendulum clock was placed between two older ones. Two of the old clocks were ticking as seconds go by. ‘tick-tock-tick-tock’

One of the old clock said to the little one “Come on, let’s work together. But I’m worried of you. I don’t think you can take it after 3 thousand and a hundred million times of ticking.”
“What!? 3 thousand and a hundred million times?” asked the little clock out of astonishment. “I couldn’t do it! No…”

The other old clock began to say “Don’t listen to him. Stay calm, you just have to tick once in a second.”
“Huh? Is it really as simple as that?” asked the little one with a puzzled face. “I’ll give it a try then.”

Ever since the little clock had decided to start ticking, time goes by. Soon, a year’s gone by. The little clock had ticked for 3 thousand and a hundred million times in total.

Postscript:

Personally, I don’t think that anyone’s perfect. Everyone has strong and weak points, or good and bad habits. It is terrifying when these bad habits and weak points began to grow with us day by day. This is because they’re not a good companion in our lives. They are the ones who would hinder us from advancing forward. Hence, no matter what kind of bad habit or weak points you might have, let’s lift up our bravery and challenge them until they leave us.

Back to the little clock in the story, being newly assembled, it had none of the experience of ticking or counting the time. With that, it nearly mistrusted someone else’s words. When the fact that it has to tick for such massive amount of times is being imposed directly toward it, it’ll think that it’s impossible to accomplish it. It is giving up before it even gave it a try. Believing in rumours is a great hindrance to us all. This would bury up our talent and our passion towards something. And when we begin to think that we’re unable to fulfill the task, we would probably ended up not giving a hundred percent of our effort. Thus, a good result wouldn’t be obtained since we were not exerting fully. Hence, before we start on something that we’re not familiar with, do not give up that easily.

Whereas if we listen to the other old clock who mentioned about ticking once in a second, we wouldn’t begin telling ourselves that it’s an impossible task. When we do not give up on our aim, marching forward a step by another, even if they’re just tiny little steps, we’ll obtain victory someday. The key to this, is a continuous and strong faith.

If you couldn’t gather up you courage to fight against your weakness or bad habits, chant in front of the Gohonzon. This way, we’re able to lift up the state of being, bringing up our courage to face these challenges without fear.
