Sense of Responsibility
Wisdom doesn’t come with position. It arises from ones sense of responsibility.
– Mr. Ikeda

I believe each and every one of you is living a busy life every day! Where all of you aren’t only in charge of Junior Division but also have to take into consideration your respective divisions (Young Men and Young Women Division or Women Division), as well as your involvement in cultural groups, pure mind group or creative group and so on. You will inevitably come across shortages of time. Sometimes, you may even come across times when you cannot come out with new ideas to bring about a fresh approach in meetings for the children. When we hit the peak of our hectic schedules, we become very clumsy and forgetful that we may forget to contact the members or even forget the time for meetings. So do all these happen because we’re too occupied?

When we inquire deep into the matter, it arises because we’ve set aside our Junior Division responsibilities. However, if we have such ‘I must do it no matter what’ sense of responsibility or vowing ‘I must help sensei to wholeheartedly encourage the Junior Division members no matter what’, with such spirit, regardless how tight our schedules may be, we would still be able to make some time to think about the Junior Division. If one were to make every effort to do their best in all their responsibilities, then this person’s potential will flourish incisively and brilliantly and that it will be his or her real strength.

Speaking of responsibility, no one is unfamiliar to it. The Chinese idioms: ‘The rise and fall of the nation’ meaning everyone bears responsibility for the prosperity of society and ‘The first concern is affairs of state, enjoying the pleasure comes later’. Since young, we’ve received such teachings on responsibilities and understood that in life, we cannot escape from small responsibilities concerning our family, relatives and friends to bigger scale responsibilities concerning the country and society as well as many other responsibilities.

Regardless of how high your position may be in our association or how respected your status may be in society, this cannot be compared to ones attitude or approach in life. A person with no sense of responsibility will ultimately fail in whatever thing they do. On the contrary, if we bear a great sense of responsibility and make every effort in all the things we do, even without experience, we can definitely find ways to straighten things out along the course of our struggles. This is the manifestation of wisdom.

In this world, there is no such thing as good for nothing or inept result; only irresponsible people. A person without a sense of responsibility, any task given to them is meaningless no matter how capable they are; as for someone who has the sense of responsibility, they will have the passion, loyalty and commitment towards their task. With the commitment to carry out……..their life will shine with brilliance and they will be able to arouse the great inner potential within their lives.

If we do not have the sense of responsibility in carrying out our task, the things we do may not be meticulous or precise, that means that we may not be able to do the task comprehensively, not able to grasp the necessities for development and also not able to carry out the tasks up to people’s expectation.  If one is irresponsible, they may create big chaos or big problem, responsibilities in a small scale may be not completing ones homework, or forgot to inform members regarding meeting; big scales may be causing an ongoing half built bridge to collapse, walls caving in or violating law enforcement. Without a sense of responsibility in carrying out tasks, I personally think that the person is actually digging up their own graves, chaining their own legs, destroying their future opportunities and are actually harming themselves at the expense of harming others.

‘Carrying out a task with the sense of responsibility’ pertains the life questions to the abundant connotation of times which bears the wisdom of life where not a word or two could clarify, or understood within a minute or two, or even accomplished in an instant, it requires us to slowly analyze, to make sense of it, to understand and putting it into practice.
