One Who Preserveres Is The Strongest of All

Regardless of which class or field you are in, as long as you do your utmost and strive for a lofty objective, you can definitely achieve it all. Your unrelenting efforts, patience, perseverance triumphs over your weakness and you will gradually be able to grasp these necessities of life. In spite of everything, we must do our utmost. One who perseveres is the strongest of all.
-      Mr. Ikeda

Regardless of who you are, whether you are a country’s foremost leader, a very rich and famous actor, a very knowledgeable multi-talented scientist or a great parent, everyone has their own problems, troubles and weaknesses. Perhaps it may be worries on making a living to support the family or problems on studies but as long as it troubles us, it is the greatest problem for us forging ahead. When the thought of ‘I can’t do it anymore!’ emerges in our mind, people tend to give up. But no matter what, the problem still remains unsolved.

Similarly, the airplane requires a runway to enable the engines of the plane to move and create the greatest force and energy required to fly, if there is any slight lax or a slight failure, it could cause a great accident costing people’s lives. Have you ever been on a plane? How does it feel? I’m sure you may have experienced unpredictable trembling feelings on flight due to the clouds obstructing the engines. The path through life isn’t always smooth and easy. Hence we must uphold the strong will to persist and unshakable belief in ourselves.

In the past, the world is covered with desolated mountains and wild forests where there isn’t any flat roads or big and tall buildings. One step at a time humankind gradually advance and progresses. Do you know who Mr. Ikeda is? He is our great mentor and also our association’s third president. If it weren’t for his perseverance to challenge the limits of his health problems and to unrelentingly work for the sake of kosen rufu, 192 countries including Malaysia wouldn’t have Soka Gakkai at present. If it weren’t for him who constantly conducts dialogues with great people and shakubuku families and households, your parents wouldn’t have taken up this faith, would they? Am I right?

We must be strict to ourselves and never give up on whatever circumstances which may come before us. By breaking through our weakness we will ultimately train and develop an exceptional us. So the next time when we encounter problems, we have already accumulated experiences and are all ready to start out again. We mustn’t get something done in a slapdash manner; we must meticulously carry out our tasks in our entire
endeavour. Slowly but surely, we will become someone who won’t give up easily.

And because we have a great mentor as our role model, we must firmly believe in our own innate potential. In view of the fact that our mentor did it, the disciples can definitely achieve it too! Likewise when teachers impart knowledge to the students, as long as the students put in efforts in their studies, they can definitely grasp and understand what is taught. Lions aren’t afraid of any beasts, may us all become the strongest lion of all and give out a massive roar which would shake up the whole cosmos!
