To The Rescue Of The Earth
Unprecedentedly, the health of the Earth is being threatened. Our Earth, our homeland, our loved ones, these are all the things that we have to protect. We can no longer hesitate to recycle, let’s take action a little by a little! Let “recycle” be the topic in your JD meeting and implement the message of recycling deep down their hearts. You could choose to do this activity on meaningful event such as the Earth Day, Earth Hour event, etc.

Procedure:

Before we start, please remember to switch or turn off electrical appliances such as lights, fan or air conditioners when you’re not in use.

1. Everyone should sing a song about recycling and we should learn about the importance of recycling through the lyrics.

2. Games: Prepare three boxes of different colours that represent three types of recycling trash can. Then, prepare some recycle-able rubbish and some that couldn’t be recycled. Lay them randomly across the floor and ask the JDs to do the classification for the rubbish according to their respective trash can. From here, we could learn more about what could and could not be recycled, and also the classification of different rubbish.

3. Craft: After a hectic game, let’s make a “paper fan” to get rid of the heat! From here, we could cultivate the way to REUSE some of the materials and make them useful again!

4. “True and False” drama: True or false questions can be acted out as a sketch or drama for the JDs to determine whether such an act is good to the environment. For example: Lucy threw away her old clothes even though they’re still in good condition. Is that correct? Encourage the JDs to explain more about their point of view as they make their decisions.

5. Conclude the day with the meaning and significance of recycle.

Conclusion:

The Earth fell sick! We should make a difference to save Mother Earth, and we should begin with ourselves! This is just like doing our human revolution. As Mr. Ikeda said “The noble human revolution of a person, in time, may change the fate of a country, and may even change the fate of mankind.” This goes the same for saving the Earth. When everyone start by changing the little habits of themselves, the world starts to change, and the future starts to change.
