Chart of The Soka Lions
As Confucius quoted “At the beginning of life, man is good in nature”. However, if JDs are lack of nurturing and fostering, they might end up in the wrong way. Thus, a good personality has to be nurtured since they’re young. The purpose of this “Chart of the Soka Lions” is to encourage JDs to be hard-working, do good deeds, to study well, and so on. From this, we’re trying to nurture a positive character out of them.

Preparation:

1.    If there’s a notice board or a white board in your district’s meeting venue, please leave a space to create the “Chart of the Soka Lions”.
2.    Each of the JDs will be given a record book named “Book of the Soka Lions”. (The usual recording books will do)
3.    A seal or stamp to praise and act as encouragement.

Significance:

The use of the recording book is to record whatever good deeds that have been carried out by the JD. But what kinds of actions are considered as good?

It could be the usual good deeds such as helping out for the housework, helping a elder to cross the road, giving your seat to those who need them, and so on. More importantly, your actions must be able to encourage people, bringing happiness, courage, and hope to the others.

We may consider it as a good deed if a JD studies well. This is to encourage him/her as he/she gains more knowledge. Plus, we could even cultivate the interest of reading in them.

As the books are distributed to the JDs, we must not forget to explain the function of it. The JDs are to record the good deeds they have done into the book, and bring it along whenever there’s a JD meeting for the PICs to check and stamp. As we counted the quantity of the stamps, we can start putting the JDs on the chart according to their results.

This helps the PICs to understand their JDs more as they get close to their daily activities. This may even help when it comes to home visits.

Remarks:

This chart is a positive competition for the JDs, hence, PICs have to be careful paying attention to every single JD and to nurture the JDs with good planning. You could try to get the JDs’ character and ability as a standard. For example: Those who achieve good results can do even better. As for those who couldn’t achieve such result, they should be getting more encouragement rather than pressure.

Guidance of Mr. Ikeda: “The priceless treasure of faith, is the thorough training of character”. Through this chart, we hope that the JDs could grow together as they compete against each other in a positive manner, to cultivate characters that shine like a gold and to nurture people who could truly be the child of a lion!
