Earnest Prayers
Earnestly pray and pray with all your heart, there are no other prayers more powerful than this. You will definitely show actual proof. ——Mr. Ikeda

Regardless of what problems we may encounter, the first thing that must come to mind is daimoku! Nothing changes when we are sulky, resentful or complaining that life is too harsh. Kneel before Gohonzon and joyously chant daimoku and all your problems will change its course towards the direction of hope, towards advancement and towards the path to victory.

In this endless course of schooling, we would definitely encounter various problems. Sometimes the teacher’s explanation on a topic is not easy to comprehend or that we don’t understand the subject that we are learning. In addition to that, there may be dispute among friends. But no matter what, the most important thing is not to be defeated by our problems. It is not up to waiting for someone to change but we ourselves changing ourselves; it isn’t that someone would inevitably change but it is up to us to initiate it. Do not complain people or our current situation causing our misery or defeat, the main point is how our heart perceives it. Even though we encounter problems, we should strive harder and earnestly chant to confront it, this way, we will definitely progress towards the best direction.

Just like our great mentor, we as disciples should carry the same spirit to be able follow our mentor’s footsteps, united and resolutely advance forward with big steps. Even though we are two different individuals we still uphold the same goal and consistently strive together.

We mustn’t because of what we are facing cause us to feel happy at one moment then sad the next moment. Just like the thunderstorm which rant and rave ceaselessly, our sufferings won’t persist forever. Sensei said: ‘People who uphold the Lotus Sutra, the Great Law of life, will grow younger and emanate the grandeur of life and do their utmost to keep advancing. The most important thing is that no matter what we must possess a firm conviction in the Gohonzon and to fervently exert ourselves in faith, practise and study.

When we are steadfast to our faith, we will definitely encounter the intrusion of the ‘three obstacles and four devils’ and the ‘three powerful enemies’. But no matter what obstacle arises, as long as we bring about our ‘prayer’ as the sword and strategy of the Mystic Law, we won’t give in to cowardice. We will shine like the brimming sun, although there are cloudy days, but the sun is unchanging. As long as we persevere, the wind will swiftly disperse the clouds. The clouds represent the problems and worries we encounter in our daily lives and the wind represents our prayers. The strength or weakness of the wind blowing is determined whether we are unyielding to the problems we encounter. As long as we have faith, no matter how or what the problems may be presented to us, it is inevitably an opportunity for us to transform our karma and to be able to build up a secure foundation/castle of a life of happiness, good fortune and open up a path of victory!

Not advancing is regressing, let us resolutely advance one step at a time and never stop even when victory is in our hands. Such spirit is very important; this conviction determines ones success or failure.
