27. Lightning and Spider Web

1. This is an artwork from a Standard 5 student. Lightning represents enlightenment, showing that there could be an energy deep down that's activated. Lightning also represents instinct. If you found that you're drawing lightning frequently, ask yourself, are you going through some drastic changes? Or have you been getting some shocking news?

2. From the first sight, this drawing has given us a "shocking" feeling. In this drawing, we could see the yellow lighting, a yellow cross tombstone, a tree that has spider web on it, and a dark surrounding. He's one of the witness of the 912 earthquake incident. He witnessed the disaster, tearing up houses and land, witnessed people losing their lives. After a few months, he found out that he's undergoing changes. He told the author that he's worried that he might be changing. He used to be playful and he never cared for anything, not even his homework. He never listen to his parents and teachers. But now, he's polite and obedient. He said that he couldn't even recognize himself, it feels weird!

3. The class teacher commented that "Most of the children undergo changes after that incident, it's like they've all grown up in just one night. Those who never do their homework is completing all the work they're given now. I'm so touched and happy when I see that they could encourage each other." This child's drawing is giving us a hint that he has been undergoing some changes. The yellow cross represents that he could be facing some hardship in his life that requires him to make a decision. Other than that, the cross could also mean that all the struggle and worries are coming to a calm and balanced condition. Lightning strikes in the dark environment shows that the sorrow and sadness has been better. Besides, it also means that he's in a new beginning point of his life. The cross symbolizes the regeneration of the life force, whereas the tree symbolizes the desire of growth.

4. The concept, colour, strokes, lines, and numbers in our drawings often represents the state of our mind or our psychology. Wouldn't it be better if we could adjust the state of our mindset and face problems positively? This child is worried, and is even afraid of the changes he's experiencing. His drawing expressed his emotions and worries. At the end, the child understood that we should all keep moving forward from the past, experiencing the changes, and achieving a balance at the end.

5. As we mentioned earlier, most of the children would undergo certain changes after incidents like earthquake. However, not every children could get used to the "change". At this point, what the children need most is encouragement from the ones around them. Changes do not always come in a bad way, they could be our improvement, revolution, or growth. Take this incident as example. Most of the children went through changes after experiencing the earthquake. Some learnt to cherish, while some learnt to encourage and support each other. But how do we identify whether these "changes" come in a good or bad way? Then we must know how much we've grown after these changes, whether or not we've learnt to cherish everything we have, or to behave greedily. But above of all, Daimoku is always a piece of mirror to us, and with this mirror, we will know if the "changes" bring positive or negative energy.
