1. Being blank, or inheriting the colour of white doesn't mean that it is really blank. It cannot hide its meaning from within. This is a work by a girl of Standard 6. While everyone was drawing something on the paper, she was the only one who did nothing but to fold the paper.
2. This delicate and pretty little girl then asked the author if they could have a chat after this, the author agreed, and she began asking the author what she saw from her art work. The author commented that she could see male sex organs. When the girl was asked about the meaning of the art work, she began to shiver, and said:
One day while I was on my way to the school, suddenly, I was grabbed into a van by someone.... The uncle on the van told me that he likes me and has been noticing me for a long time, looking at me while I was walking to the school every morning.... He said that he wants to look at my underwear.... but I refused.... But then he took out a knife, and pointed it at my cheek.... He said that if I don't obey what he says, I'd get into trouble... I did not dare to move anymore.... Then, he drove the van up to the hills.... I've... been.... raped! On the way home, he told me not to tell anyone, or I could get my family into danger.
3. After that, the author asked her if she told her family members about it,and she said yes. "Daddy was very angry, he wanted to make a police report, but then mommy doesn't agree on that. She said if the police were to handle this, everyone would know about it, how is our girl going to face the world? She asked daddy to calm down, and asked me to think on the bright side." Then the author asked how does she feel whenever she thinks about this. She said "I hate it! And I'm very angry! But still, I feel helpless, I don't know what to do." The little girl's mother brought her to the psychologist, and they told her that it's not her fault. The unfortunate incident has happened, we should never left her any shadow in her heart that might affect her life in the future. But still, she couldn't let go of this, and asked the author what should she do.
4. Then, the author wants her to describe what she's gone through once again, including "that thing". The author gone through the scaring experience once again with her, and asked her to write it down again. After that, she get to choose whether to keep it or to tear it apart. The author asked to meet up again with her after a period of time, and she agreed with it. When they meet again, they began talking about it again "One day while I was on my way to the school, suddenly..." Only this time, she isn't as afraid as before. She is clear about what's right and wrong. She's the victim, she doesn't have to carry up to much negative emotion from this incident. Since what is done is done, there's no other way than to face it and overcome it. She did it! When she tells the story once again, she seemed so stable. From that, we knew that she began to walk towards the light from the shadow.
5. Nobody wanted this to happen. What would you do if you come across to a case like this? Just as the author said, what is done has been done, and what we could do is to let the victim step away from the shadow, and be back on track of the life. We must let the victim release the negative emotion inside before it gets worse and affect their daily life in the future. This case is one of the example, allowing them to describe what's happened over and over again. The main aim is to let them understand that they, as the victim, should not bare too much of the negative emotion and responsibility after the incident. Hence, it is very important that we be with them, and walk with them until they get back on track of their lives.
