23. The Story in the Dream

1. This is drawn by a Standard 3 student who used a simple and direct way of expressing himself. The pen followed his will and reflected what's in his mind. He made the following explanation:

There are several dots in 3 corners of the drawing. The groups of dots above the paper are on the phone, linked by the telephone line. The dots in the lower left corner has a phone too, but it could only link with the group of dots above them as the line is vertical. After all, there are no dots at the lower right corner, so they don't need to have telephone lines. Voice and sound could jump and fly, just like balloons. There must not be any noise at the lower right corner because it is too noisy!

2. There's a lot of "noise" at the center of the drawing. He explained that " The grey colour is my father's sweat. Father's chubby, and when he works, he'd sweat a lot just like the flowing water. I wish that he doesn't have to be so exhausting. The green one is green bean soup. Father could feel more relieved after drinking the cold green bean soup. The red one is grandmother's mouth. She speaks so fast, just like bleeding. If we never stop it, it continues. The skin colour is my stomach. It loves to be filled with delicious food, for example, cold drinks and watermelon would be great during the summer. The lines at the bottom represent the story of my dreams. While I'm unable to fall asleep around 2 in the morning, there would be a lot of cartoon characters that talk with me. They'd bring me to a place far far away where we have a lot of fun."

3. When the author asked the teacher if he's being tired in the school, the teacher replied that he doesn't seemed to be tired in the class, but he'd be even more energetic during recess. It doesn't seemed like he's lacking of sleep. This doesn't sound good. There's a big imbalance here when he had a lot of activity during daytime but get so little slumber time. According to him, he'd start feeling sleepy around 8, but he'll only go to bed at 9. One day after another, he picked up the routine of thinking and imagining before he sleeps. He often peed on the bed after he fell asleep and is lazy to go to the toilet. The author asked if he had a good appetite, he replied that he only takes food that he likes.

4. Lacking of sleep, and having an imbalanced diet is common among the children that carry out great activities. It is suggested that teachers and parents take their children to the doctor as these are the problems that should have been solved before their children became hyperactive. Usually, sleeping problems would be better as they turn 10 or 11; and eating problems on 13 or 14. Lacking of sleep and an imbalanced diet would affect the control of the activity of the bladder. This is why this child would peed in his dreams. This problem will only turn better when the children reach 16 or 17. But in most cases, the children's condition began to turn better around 9 and 10.

5. It is not only from our children's drawing that we should concentrate on, but their daily lifestyle and activities too. When we think that peeing on the bed is a usual thing among children, did we think about the reason that has caused this? We should never forget to also care about our children's health, diet, and lifestyle. Their growth depend on these factors very much. We should start from the little bad habits that they do and correct them, especially their diet. As they say, we are what we eat. It is no doubt that it is important that we educate them to eat well too.
