22. A Girl Who Needs More Sense of Security

1. This is drawn by a girl of Standard 4. Other than the sun being drawn as a piece, the other elements in the drawing is drawn with lines in a random manner. The short lines are usually thick whereas the long ones are thin and inconsistent (maybe the colour pen was running out of ink). There are lesser horizontal lines compared to vertical lines, and there's barely any diagonal ones. Line itself, expresses our psychological behaviour. Vertical line represents a state of balance and peace; diagonal line brings a sense of ascending and descending; whereas horizontal line represents a state of silent and rest.

2. While the author tried to let the child explain more about the message, she wasn't able to do so. Her mind was full of uncertainty as there were different voices speaking at the same time in her mind. When she asked the author "Teacher, what do you think of my drawing?", she was given another quetion instead. The author asked her "Then what do you think about it yourself?" She replied "I don't know, there are two person in this drawing who happens to be the same person; they're blaming each other, she dislike her, but she dislike her too! They're the same person, just like me, having two voices that speaks in my mind, it's so annoying!" In the drawing, she tried to bind two of them on different strings so that they couldn't influence each other.

3. Then, her teacher explained that she's a perfectionist, and will not let herself to carry out any wrong move. However, she's not strong enough on her own points. Whenever there's an opposing opinion, she could be easily influenced or affected. Just because of this, her friends often think that she changes a lot from time to time. She, herself would feel bad though, for being weak with her own position. The author could understand how she felt, because he's just the same. He told her that she's good enough to have found out how special she is while she was just Standard 4.

4. This little girl is clever and keen. It i impressive that she could express herself thoroughly through her drawing. The author told her "I need time to discover problems, and to deal with it. Every now and then, we have to refresh ourselves or it might affect our emotion and behaviour. If this happens, the "two" of you would start quarreling, am I right?" The girl laughed after hearing that as she found someone who could understand her much. After that, the author talked more about this issue with her for another 30 minutes.

5. The author added on "I believe that I'm the same as this little girl. We're both confident people who's lacking of a sense of security. This has very much to do with my family background and the environment I grew up in. I've been over-protected since I was little, hence, I would not know what is a senses of security. But I began to feel sad and afraid as got out of my "protective shield" and went for school. My mind kept on changing when I wanted to make a decision. These little wonders have been the hindrance to my actions." At the end, the author suggeted her to think about the good starting reason for the things that have been done; and to think on the positive side before carrying out something that hasn't been done. We should not let the other's opinion to hinder us from proceeding on own direction. The author gave her a quote, which says "Do for good, speak for good, and think for good".
