Earthworm’s ability of regeneration
Do you know earthworm has the ability of regeneration?
Does this make them invincible?
I would like to share a story of an earthworm family.
Here goes the story.
Once upon a day, earthworm daddy got a long holiday from work and had nothing to do.
And…
Well, this is what he wanted to do actually…
So, he finally found something to kill the time.
“Ish, you think that’s all you can do?” Earthworm mommy stared at earthworm daddy, and she said: “I’ll show you what I can do!”
And…
After cutting herself into four pieces, earthworm mommy said: “Not only you can play chess with yourself, I can….”
=And what she did was…
The regeneration ability seemed to allow them to do almost everything! Furthermore, it shows that earthworm, too have a strong life like the cockroaches!
But one day, the earthworm family’s eldest son died…
Why is it so?
It was…
This incident stunned every single earthworm.
His family was so sad after that.
But the incident reminded them to use this ability carefully.
Not long after that incident,
the earthworm family’s younger son can’t stand to be alone after his brother’s departure,
so he cut himself
to make the family a happy family again.
Surprisingly, he died…
How could that have happened?
As far as the story goes, we know that the regeneration ability is not that invincible after all. But how and where should they cut to regenerate successfully?

Explanation:
Earthworms have the facility to regenerate lost segments when a part of them was damaged. This is what we call regeneration ability. But this ability varies between species and depends on the extent of the damage. Certain species posseses a great regeneration ability while some of them are weak. Some could even get back any organ after it was damaged with the help of regeneration.
Earthworms can regenerate both their heads and tails, but the rate of regeneration is slower for the tail. The damaged part will form a ring, and it takes 2 or 3 months to regenerate. The amount of tissue regenerated is equal to the amount of the damaged tissue. If the amount of tissue regenerated is more or less compared to the damaged tissue, it simply means that its regeneration ability is weak.
