An action, an observation – Constructing Era
Name of the game: An action, an observation – Constructing Era

Duration: 20-30 minutes

Procedure:

1. Firstly, Junior Division would have to split up into groups of 5, 3, and 2.

2. Then, the groups of 5 are required to hold a rope and form a triangle within 3 minutes with their eyes blindfolded.

3. After that, the groups of 3 will have to join in. Thus, 8 of them will then have to form a square within 3 minutes with their eyes blindfolded too.

4. Within the stated time, the other groups of 2, will have to jot down the process of the game from the beginning. And by using 10 minutes, discuss the following questions:

i. In the game, what does the group of 5, 3 and 2 represents?

ii. What is the meaning of the triangle and the square? Can you suggest any example?

iii. What are the problems that you encounter during the game? And what will your solutions be?

iv. What enlightenment do you get from the game? Do you encounter the same problem in this organization?

Conclusion:

Everyone’s action and communication in the organization will decide its development and future. However, the problems ahead and the future’s tendency are often unclear due to the human communication problem, and over-persisting to personal point of view. Plus, those who watched and did not participate in the formation might think that they’ve got the whole idea and even the solution. But after participating in the formation, their original capability might be influenced by the current feeling and the thought they had before. Thus, when the problem’s getting bigger, they’ll repeat the same mistake or wrong solution.

So, we must work as a team, and carefully listen to everyone’s voice and opinion, combining everyone’s wisdom to solve and overcome the problem. It is this that can fulfill our happiness and continuously improving our organization.

A Japanese entrepreneur, Mr. Konosuke always says: “I don’t have much knowledge.” But actually he’s a very intelligent person that values others opinions.

For example if a new product didn’t get a good respond, he would immediately discuss and find out the solution with the technicians and factory workers. If the problem wasn’t from the factory or manufacture, he would change his target, or may even ask the customer.

Someone told him: “Why do you have to do it personally? You could have just ask your staff to do it for you.” Mr. Konosuke replied: “If I asked them to do it, they would be very nervous and would first prepare the solution for me. They could even “beautify” the report just to get my fancy. I do not have the knowledge to settle it, and thus I have no choice but to follow theirs. This is what I fear, and that is why I’ll do it myself.”

No wonder he’s called “the god of business operation”. To other people, it’s always the similar opinion that they would like to hear. They would not easily accept the opposite opinion, and thus, keeping a distance from people who like that.

Whether or not to listen to the opposite opinion – I think this is the difference between a good leader and a dictator. Dictator might look big, but they’re just people with tiny tolerance who couldn’t even receive the opinion against them.
