3. The Story of Lines

1. To a young kid, drawings and paintings are personal feelings and what they personally knew. Therefore, it’s not a simple and meaningless graffiti to adults anymore. This is an artwork by a boy of standard 2.

2. It may appear as a lot of messy lines, but it’s actually very meaningful. The blue colour in the circles will be the sound of rain, and it’s a heavy one, unable to block the wind; as for the coffee colour, that will be the sound of his parents arguing the day before, it’s loud, and similar to that of the rain, sometimes being pleasant to hear it and sometimes not; the grey colour explains that he wasn’t feeling alright and wished to go out for a walk, started to feel hungry, and wanted to eat; ate a lot, like fruits, biscuits, steaks; thought of mommy saying that she will bring me out for the whole day tomorrow, I feel so happy!

3. Actually, he was a child who has Sensory Integration Dysfunction. Before this, his expression wasn’t obvious, he wouldn’t cry nor yell, and has no feeling towards any incident. He was later confirmed to have this disorder after a medical check up in the hospital. To stimulate his sensory functions, his parents took a lot of measures including the way of listening to classical music. Through drawing, his parents guided him to talk more. This is also a good way. After a period of encouragement, his ability to express has improved, and he could express his feelings. And now, he became a kid that could understand the meaning of other kid’s drawings. They never rely on medication through this process, but with caring, encouragement, and they never give up on him.

4. President Ikeda said: “There’s always the urge to grow and develop in a child’s life. Parents shouldn’t worry too much, but to tolerate and protect them calmly. When suffering is overcome, it will become a noble wealth. And children originally have the ability of overcoming trouble.
